O’Leary clan gathering Sept. 2010

Theme: The Church Of Ireland Parish of Inchigeelagh, 1750-1850 

Dear members of the O’Leary Clan and other Uibh Laoghaire families.

Following a small but successful 2009 gathering, the weekend of Sept. 17th-19thth 2010 sees the 15th annual clan gathering. As in previous years, the meeting will take place in the ancestral homeland of the O’Learys: Inchigeelagh village, in the Parish of Uibh Laoghaire, County Cork, Ireland.   The venue will be Creedon’s Hotel, situated in the heart of the village.  
Joining us over the weekend to share their knowledge and enthusiasm will be Miriam O’Donovan and the Rev R. Bantry White. 

The weekend’s (draft) timetable is anticipated to include the following: 

Fri.17th	6-7.00	Meet /register in the lounge of Creedon’s Hotel.
	7.30	Formal opening of the weekend followed by social gathering (inc.music).
Sat.18th	10.00	Group photograph followed by:
	10.15	A talk on “Inchigeelagh Church of Ireland Parish” by Rev R. Bantry White (to Include a coffee break)
	11.30	A talk on funeral and death rituals by Miriam O’Donovan
	12.30	A coach trip visiting sites within Uibh Laoghaire including the now traditional stop at “Manning’s Emporium” for a “taste of West Cork”.
	7.30pm	The annual O’Leary dinner followed by an evening of music and entertainment.
Sun.19th	10.00	A workshop on Family Research (including a coffee break)
	10.45	Update on the O’Leary website
	11.00	Update on the O’Leary DNA project
	11.30	Formal ending

 

Although there are talks/presentations and updates, the weekend has a strong social side offering opportunities to renew old friendships, meet new members of the worldwide O’Leary clan as well as members of other families who can trace their roots back to this historic and beautiful part of West Cork. As in previous years, it will be very informal with no ceremony. We want everyone to enjoy themselves, while making new friends and learning more about the families of Uibh Laoghaire. 

The charge, (to include the coach trip to Manning’s Emporium for a taste of West Cork’s food (cheese, meats and breads), entertainment, group photograph and the annual dinner will be Euro 85.  We leave lunch, drinks and accommodation to your choice. It is our intention to display individual “family trees”, so if you could e-mail/post or bring a copy with you that we could display it would be much appreciated. Many of our members have researched their individual families and are well aware of the pitfalls that await researchers, particularly those tracing Irish families, so why not come along and use the weekend to talk to our members and maybe find another name to add to your family tree!
